God's Fingerprints in Scripture
I love when I find "God's Fingerprint" in the Bible! Here's one of my favorite examples:
There is a 5 + 2 = 7 formula/pattern:
7 Churches of Revelation chapters 2 and 3: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thiatyra, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. 5 receive both commendations and criticisms. 2 (Smyrna & Philadelphia) do not receive criticisms; 2 (Sardis and Laodicea) receive no commendations.
These 7 Letters correspond with several other Biblical “patterns”:
* 7 Parables of the Kingdom: Matt. 13 (2 are explained);
* 7 Churches Paul wrote to (2 he didn't plant)
* 7 “Motivational/Personality” spiritual gifts: 2 gifts named; 5 are “he who” i.e. the person.
* 7 Periods of Israel's Old Testament history: Patriarchs, Egypt, Judges, United, Divided, Exiled to Babylon, Return; 2 outside the land
7 Non-Pauline Letters/Epistles: James, 1 Pet, 2 Pet, 1 Jn, 2 Jn 3 Jn, Jude. 2 by Jesus' half-brothers, 5 by Apostles Peter & John.
* Feasts of Israel: Passover, Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, New Year, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles, Dedication (Hanukah), and Purim. 5 are Levitical, 2 from post-exilic times.
*(also possibly: 7 objects in the solar system visible to the naked eye: Sun (non-planet), Moon (non-planet), (5 planets) Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn.
* Also possible: We have a 7 day week. Western culture, often called "Judeo-Christian", has granted a two-day weekend to accommodate various "Sabbath" observances.
You might think I'm stretching with the last two, and you may be right. But the others are, from my view, amazing!
